The IFBB Arnold Classic Sports Festival, also known as the Arnold Schwarzenegger Sports Festival, is an annual multi-sport event consisting of professional bodybuilding (Arnold Classic), strongman (Arnold Strongman Classic), fitness, figure and a bikini weekend. It was founded in 1989 and is named after Arnold Schwarzenegger. The main event is held every year in late February or early March in Columbus, Ohio, United States, by the International Federation of BodyBuilding & Fitness (IFBB). It is considered the second most important event in professional bodybuilding for men, physique, figure and bikini after Joe Weider’s Olympia; it used to be the second most important event in professional women’s bodybuilding.

The ASF is a lucrative sports competition with a number of high prizes to be won. The first prize in bodybuilding consists of a check for $130,000, a Hummer and a watch from Audemars Piguet. Since the Mr. Olympia bodybuilding title is older and higher paying than the ASF, a rivalry has developed in terms of prestige and popularity[citation needed]. The ASF is always hotly contested, with often only one or two points separating the winners.

The All-Star Cheerleading competitions span two days (usually all day Saturday and into Sunday at noon). In 2014, more than 4,000 participants took part in the cheerleading competition. Each team (15-30 cheerleaders) prepares to perform a two-and-a-half-minute routine. After the teams have completed their performances, they are judged by a panel of judges, each judge being an expert in one area of cheerleading (jumps, tumbling, stunting, etc.). Once the judging is complete, each team competing is called to the mat for the awards ceremony, where each team has a chance to win multiple times. ASF awards consist of the following: National Champion jackets, trophies for each team, customized medals, limited edition patches, and Grand Champion banners, as well as possible partial or full paid participation in the Cheerleading World competitions. On June 7, 2013, ASF organizer Jim Lorimer announced that beginning in 2014, ASF’s “212” (a men’s professional bodybuilding division) would permanently replace the Ms. International bodybuilding competition for women. Lorimer said in a statement, “The Arnold Sports Festival has been proud to support women’s bodybuilding through the Ms. International for the past quarter century, but in keeping with the demands of our fans, the time has come to introduce the Arnold Classic 212 beginning in 2014. We look forward to creating a professional competition platform for some of the most popular female competitors in the IFBB Pro League.” [2]

Arnold Alois Schwarzenegger (/ˈʃvɑːrtsnɛɡər/;[1] pronounced [ˈaʁnɔlt ˈaːlɔɪ̯s ˈʃvaʁt͡səneːɡɐ] (listen); born July 30, 1947) is an Austrian-American actor, film producer, businessman, former bodybuilder and politician who served as the 38th governor of California between 2003 and 2011. As of 2022, he is the most recent Republican governor of California. Time magazine named Schwarzenegger one of the 100 most influential people in the world in 2004 and 2007.[2][3]

Wine canceled most of the Arnold Sports Festival due to the developing COVID -19 pandemic in Ohio before any cases or deaths were reported. The cancelation was widely considered ‘radical’ at the time. [3][4]
