Mr Olympia is the title awarded to the winner of the men’s professional bodybuilding competition at Joe Weider’s Olympia Fitness & Performance Weekend – an international bodybuilding competition held annually by the International Federation of BodyBuilding & Fitness (IFBB). Joe Weider created this competition to give Mr. Universe winners the opportunity to continue competing and earning money. The first Mr Olympia took place on September 18, 1965, at the Brooklyn Academy of Music in New York City. Larry Scott won his first of two titles in a row. The record is eight wins each by Lee Haney (1984-1991) and Ronnie Coleman (1998-2005). Currently, Big Ramy holds the title.

The movie Pumping Iron (1977) showed the preparation for the 1975 Mr Olympia in Pretoria, South Africa, and helped Arnold Schwarzenegger, Lou Ferrigno, and Franco Columbu to their acting careers.

There will also be a female bodybuilder crowned, Ms. Olympia, as well as the winners of Fitness Olympia and Figure Olympia for fitness and figure competitions. All four competitions are held on the same weekend. From 1994 to 2003 and again in 2012, a Masters Olympia was also crowned. A version with amateur competitors is also held worldwide, the Mr Olympia Amateur.

As for this year’s edition of Olympia, there are some special highlights that stand out compared to previous years.

For example, the reigning champion Phil Heath will fight for his 8th consecutive Sandow title.

If he wins, he will match the title wins of Lee Haney and Ronnie Coleman.

In addition, this year will also be the last Olympics for reigning champion Flex Lewis (212).

Lewis has no plans to retire but will move up to the Open Division next year.

Also, this year viewers will have the opportunity to vote for their own Mr Olympia. However, if they choose a different winner than the judges, their winner will be awarded the ‘People’s Champion Award’.

Also new for 2018 is the prize money, which has increased to an all-time high of $1.36 million.

Should he win, he would match the title wins of Lee Haney and Ronnie Coleman.
